Alice Gipps has been immersed in the world of horses since the age of three, a lifelong passion that continues to shape her artistic practice. Horses have remained the central subject of her work across painting, sculpture, drawing and photography since childhood.
She pursued her artistic interests through formal study, completing a foundation year at Pittville Art College and life drawing at the Slade School of Art. Time spent in Italy studying Art History was followed by a degree in Equine Science, deepening her understanding of anatomy and behaviour.
Alice is widely recognised as one of the leading polo photographers, having specialised in the sport since 2002. She has built an extensive international portfolio, contributing imagery and written work to major publications including The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Financial Times, Horse & Hound, Country Life and Polo Times, among others. She has also published books of her work.
Alongside her success in sports photography, Alice has returned to a more expressive artistic path, exploring fine art photography, mixed media, pastel portraiture, and painting in oils and acrylics. Her work seeks to capture the interplay of natural light and subject, creating dynamic compositions that immerse the viewer.
As Alice explains:
“I seek to combine natural light with the subject or scene to create compositions that are both artistic and engaging, images that draw the viewer in and evoke a strong visual response.”
Her practice has since evolved into mixed media and abstract oils, allowing her to expand her creative expression beyond her enduring connection to the equestrian world.
