Thomas Mercer Classis
The Thomas Mercer Classis is a marine chronometer that unites the disciplines of horology, yacht design, and fine woodworking. Commissioned by Andrew Winch Designs, the chronometer’s Macassar ebony body was crafted by LINLEY, exemplifying British craftsmanship.
Inspired by the form of a traditional winch, the Classis features a twelve-faceted case, each face adorned with satinwood inlays bearing the names of twelve historic ships significant to maritime exploration. Engraved profiles and coordinates of these vessels are etched into the pedestal base, celebrating pivotal voyages in navigation history.
At its core, the Classis houses the TM0801 calibre. This innovative design minimises temperature-induced errors, ensuring exceptional accuracy at sea. The movement is mounted on a gimballed suspension system, maintaining horizontal alignment regardless of the vessel's motion
A concealed drawer within the Macassar ebony case houses the winding key, reflecting the meticulous attention to detail throughout the piece. Limited to an edition of ten, the Classis stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design.
