Chalet Kitchen | St Christoph, Austria

LINLEY were asked by a private client to help with the design of ‘Skyfall’, their unique new chalet in the quintessential Austrian ski resort of St Christoph. Due to extremely strict planning laws, this was the first new building to be created there in fifty years.

LINLEY’s brief was for the kitchen to complement the indigenous materials which characterise the interior of the chalet. As a new-build, the exterior was designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding architecture and landscape. With that in mind a key instruction from the client was to incorporate reclaimed Austrian Stone Hearted Spruce which is used as a defining accent in the rest of the chalet

The reclaimed timber was shipped back to the LINLEY workshop in the UK where, in collaboration with the client, it was reworked into a unique design before returning to Austria to be installed on site and oiled and finished with a whitening agent. Granite floors and Mystic Grey Satino finished granite worktops add a cool contrast to the timber whilst beaten copper splash backs and glass and steel appliances bring character to the space. The overriding effect is a subtle juxtaposition between the clean contemporary design and the faithful careworn reclaimed timbers.
