Horse Guard's Parade Desk

In celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the desk, fashioned from walnut and Bombay rosewood, features an architectural miniature of the distinctive Horse Guards Building designed by William Kent in 1745. This building will be familiar to many as every year the Queens official birthday is celebrated with the Trooping of the Colour right in front of it.

In this context, the building provides the main gallery of the desk. The desk itself sits atop eight Doric column legs. Gold plated beading and satinwood stringing highlight the piece which houses six drawers, two of which depict a mounted horse guard in marquetry inlay, marquetry being a particular hallmark of LINLEY furniture.

Presiding over the leather writing surface, the Horse Guards Parade box is created from walnut, burr walnut and sycamore. It is distinguished by intricate marquetry inlay, hand turned finials and conceals several secret drawers and compartments within.

The desk, which took several weeks of design time, took over 1400 man hours of cabinet-making, accounting for its extraordinary complexity and level of intricate detail, was sold privately in November 2012 for £200,000. All funds raised from the sale were donated by LINLEY to the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
