Cassiopeia Screen
The Cassiopeia Screen is a striking triptych that blends functional design with expressive marquetry. Created for Masterpiece 2017, the screen was conceived as an exploration between wall-mounted art and a room-dividing object — a hybrid that reflects LINLEY’s deep understanding of material, movement, and form. Each of the three panels is engineered to rotate between fixed supports in brushed brass and polished aluminium, balancing mechanical precision with sculptural presence.
On one side, the screen features a marquetry interpretation of a reclining nude by British artist Jonathan Yeo. Based on his early painting Scarlett (Cassiopeia Study) from 1999, the composition reflects Yeo’s fragmented visual language, which translates seamlessly into wood veneer. This collaboration marked Yeo’s first venture into furniture design, bringing fine art into the world of crafted interiors.
The reverse side of the screen introduces a functional counterpart. Clad in claret Connolly leather, two of the panels are fitted as a valet with a brushed brass and aluminium coat hook and hanger, a glass mirror, and a walnut accessory tray. The third panel functions as a bar, with polished aluminium gallery rails and open shelving for glassware and decanters. The design responds to the needs of a private interior while preserving the elegance and materiality of a collectible piece.
The Cassiopeia Screen embodies LINLEY’s dual approach to design — expressive in concept, exceptional in craftsmanship, and always designed to live beautifully in its space.
