David Linley's New Book - Star Pieces
LINLEY are proud to announce the release of David Linley’s latest book Star Pieces.
This book is the first to take a subject that has previously been represented in dry histories onto a new and spectacular level, in which furniture’s ‘star pieces’, whether made in the distant past or in the 21st century, are seen in an entirely fresh light.
Whether an antique of great provenance or a sculptural piece of design-art, this is furniture that is timeless in its arresting beauty and which connects us directly to the maker. The book’s rich and varied illustrations include details of materials, both expected and unexpected, fabulous ornamentation and sensually tactile upholstery, as well as a feast of spectacular pieces, both antique and contemporary.
Specially commissioned photography shows how a stimulating mix of furniture brings an interior alive, a parallel to the fashion world where it is chic to blend high street buys with vintage and limited edition pieces.
Both a dazzling survey of iconic furniture throughout the ages and an indispensable guide to commissioning or buying a ‘star piece’ of your own, written by experts on the subject.
"Star Pieces is a celebration of spectacular furniture from throughout the ages and today. I was lucky enough to work with two great connoisseurs - Charles Cator and Helen Chislett - to bring together this substantial work. I hope it will inspire and delight people who, like me, share a passion for beautiful things'. David Linley
