Details
The principal component of the main body and gallery of the Finsbury Desk is American walnut, with inlays of lacewood, rosewood, ebony and nickel plating.
At the centre of the elliptical structure is a green leather writing surface which evokes the fact that the only bowling green in the City of London (created in 1925) survives to this day on Finsbury Circus.
Presiding over the green is a crescent shaped gallery which houses six visible drawers and two secret revolving compartments. Further references to the history of Finsbury Circus are inlaid in marquetry around the frieze which itself contains further drawers and secret compartments.
