Details
The top half is constructed as a cabinet in the more conventional sense, featuring Macassar ebony and ripple sycamore inlay, its doors open to reveal recesses within.
The bottom part however is a simulation of what it appears to be; the suggestion of legs is veneered onto the edges of a light box.
They are in fact two dimensional and although they appear to be supporting the cabinet above, this is in fact an illusion. Inside the cabinet, the doors open to reveal what appears to be a series of alternating alcoves. However on pushing a button, this false front disappears into the negative void below to reveal further alcoves and a screen which projects a simulation of infinite perspective inspired by the Teatro Olimpico.
Again the senses are toyed with through surprising finishes and linings within the cabinet – from glass and mirrors through to brightly coloured velvets and quirky opening mechanisms.
