Details
LINLEY has interpreted this spectacular building in a detailed architectural jewellery box constructed in sycamore with carved and laser etched details. The proportions of the building are as accurate as possible - starting with the stepped plinth leading up to the main building flanked on all corners by four carved sycamore lions with detailed balustrading running down the East and West sides. The columns and frieze have been recreated with turned sycamore columns and three dimensional dentils running around the base of the lid.
The lid opens to reveal a mirror on the underside and a lift out cruciform tray lined in turquoise silk. On the top surface are four inset compartments with marquetry that reflects the decorative carving of the underside face of the frieze. The tray can be removed to reveal two other removable compartments with a long tray in the centre.
The box contains two secret drawers; one is located in the lid of the box and is operated on a push catch and the second is the front door which is opened via a secret catch - one of the lions slides towards the house releasing a sprung catch which causes the drawer to spring open.
